Alfred Stieglitz Ute Kieseyer Simone Philippi Gabriele-Sabine Gugetzer - 'The complete illustrations from all 50 issues of the legendary magazine Camera Work. Towards the magazine’s end, Stieglitz pushed its vision of modern photography beyond even pictorialism, most notably by publishing the abstract and documentary work of Paul Strand. Get this from a library Camera work : the complete illustrations, 1903-1917. For the first ten years, the magazine mostly published the work of a dozen Photo-Secession photographers, including Alvin Coburn, Gertrude Käsebier, Edward Steichen, and Clarence White, often in conjunction with exhibitions of their photographs that Stieglitz organized at his gallery, the “Little Galleries of the Photo-Secession,” at 291 Fifth Avenue, which he later renamed “291.” Over time, Stieglitz widened the focus of the magazine to include more international photographers and more photographic representations of paintings, drawings, and other modes of modern art, as he did in the July 1912 special number (39s), which features works by Matisse and Picasso in conjunction with Gertrude Stein’s verbal portraits of both artists. Alfred Stieglitz was an American photographer and modern art promoter who was instrumental over his fifty-year career in making photography an accepted art. Stieglitz conceived of Camera Work as “the mouthpiece of the Photo-Secession” (16), the circle of like-minded American photographers that he drew about him. Pictorialism not only asked more of photography than the mechanical processes emphasized by camera club technicians, it also elevated the photographer’s work above the growing mass of amateur photographs made possible by the new Kodak cameras (which enabled anyone to become a photographer, according to Kodak’s slogan: “you press the button, we do the rest”). It presented high-quality photogravures by some of the most important photographers in the world, with the goal to establish photography as a fine art. As indicated by the new word in its title, Stieglitz’s magazine would feature the artistic work performed by pictorial photographers, who sought to project feeling and meaning into a photograph by using a soft focus and other devices that show the photographer’s hand. Camera Work was a quarterly photographic journal published by Alfred Stieglitz from 1903 to 1917. Desiring even greater control over the publication than the club members would give him, Stieglitz started his own journal to advance his vision of photography as a fine art and “medium of individual expression” (CW 1: 15). When Alfred Stieglitz began publishing Camera Work in 1903, he already had five years of experience editing Camera Notes, the house journal of the Camera Club of New York.

Login either by typing everything or just clicking the given info and proceeding. If you haven’t added all the points, it’s not actually a big deal. I’ve also taken away the UL bank and PAS, as I don’t need the bank now, and I won’t probably need the PAS at all except as a bounce point. They appear to be assigned to the IPs randomly. The positions of different bounce points will be different, so don’t worry if you find 5 of them in New Zealand while I have none. When done, it looks like this in a “normal” and loaded state respectively: It takes quite a while, I know, but it’ll save you more in the long run. Naturally, you can mark more or less than 5 points, I just find it convenient. If you’re still not sure, consult with the names. Some of them will most likely overlap, so you might want to change the scale of the map. Go on until you’ve connected all of them. Click Load and connect the five points to the existing path.ĭouble-click Cancel (so that you’re in the gateway again) and unplus the IPs. You can start from the top, but the way described is more convenient to me. Scroll the list down to the five empty spaces you left after taking away the pluses. Actually, you won’t have to go to this section anymore, and you’ll need some data from InterNIC later. I agree, it’s a lot, but it will serve you well. Go to Browse/Search again, but now add all IPs there. If you still have the trace you previously saved, and connect. Note: don’t click the lines themselves, or else you’ll connect to those IPs immediately.Ĭonnect to InterNIC again. Add all the orange points to it and click Save again.Ĭlose the map and click the pluses once more, so that there are no icons in front of the five. The points in orange are the ones marked with +. Now, click the circles in front of them once, so they become pluses. As you’ve probably noticed, the list has become longer. If it doesn’t click the plus once more.Ĭlick Disconnect right under the map. Choose the first five points in the list by clicking a + in front of them, it should disappear. It’ll spare you a lot of time later.Ĭonnect to InterNIC and choose Browse/Search. After you’ve connected all the points present (again, starting with InterNIC), click Save. The only point you can’t unchoose is your gateway. Say, if you’ve connected to UI, you won’t be able to connect to InterNIC unless you disconnect. NOTE: to connect from any point you already at, you have to disconnect first. There is only one exception: Uplink Internal Services System (UI) can be securely reached directly. IMPORTANT: InterNIC must always be your first bounce point. To maximize the number of bouncing points, first go to your map and connect all your present IPs. the more bounce points you have, the longer it takes to find you. When you’re satisfied with the path, click Connect. To bounce, choose an IP (click a white square “dot”) and then a different one. However, few of them are safe, so you’ll want to bounce of as many IP addresses as possible in order not to be tracked and caught. To do this, just click the map in the upper left part of the screen and choose the place you’d like to connect to. "That made-up rule is wrong," the brief adds. Soccer wants the court to decide that "if women's and men's pay structures have some differences, a court should assume the differences offset each other and compare total compensation rather than rates of pay." The USWNT pushed back against the notion that the different structures are relevant in its brief on Friday, however. "The Fourth Circuit did not consider highly complex, negotiated pay packages of the sort at issue here, i.e., where no single wage component differs between men and women while all else remains the same," U.S. Bonuses aside, the men are paid on a per-camp basis, whereas the women are paid on a hybrid structure where some players are paid based on call-ups but others are paid salaries. Soccer, anticipating the USWNT side would raise the Sempowich case, issued a letter to the court last week arguing that it doesn't apply to this lawsuit because the 4th Circuit was not asked to evaluate differing compensation structures akin to the U.S. The only way the women could achieve the same overall pay as the men was by performing much better than them. The USWNT brief adds: "Here, because the district court used a total-compensation standard, it completely ignored the fact that the players' pay depends on performance. "Every court of appeals that has considered a total-compensation approach to the Equal Pay Act has rejected it," the USWNT brief says. women's national teamĪccording to the USWNT's legal team, this proves that comparing total compensation between the USWNT and USMNT is legally insufficient to determine whether discrimination happened. ESPN+ viewers' guide: LaLiga, Bundesliga, MLS, FA Cup, more -Stream ESPN FC Daily on ESPN+ (U.S. She had been paid more because she made more sales, the court said, but the rate of pay was lower and "an employer violates the Equal Pay Act if it pays female employees at a rate less than that of similarly situated male employees." A judge dismissed her case, citing her higher total compensation than her colleagues, but the appeals court overturned it. In that case, a woman named Tracy Sempowich sued for wage discrimination because, although she had been paid the same commission rate as her male colleagues, her base pay was lower. Now, in their final brief filed Friday in the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, the USWNT says an appeal granted earlier this month in another case demonstrates why the judge was wrong to dismiss their case in the first place. In their appeal filed in July, the USWNT's lawyers argued that was only true because the women outperformed the men, all while the women's performance bonuses were still smaller. Soccer's argument that that the women had actually been paid more in total compensation than their male counterparts. The USWNT's equal pay lawsuit was dismissed in May 2020 as the judge accepted U.S. Friday's deadline for written responses was the final stage before the appeal can move on to oral arguments. But in this latest go-round, the USWNT's lawyers have emphasized recent events, including a ruling in a similar court case, to back up their appeal. The USWNT's primary argument stayed the same: that the women were paid at a lower rate than their male counterparts. Soccer Federation, calling the lower court's original decision "flatly wrong." women's national team made its closing written argument on Friday in a bid to overturn the dismissal of its equal pay lawsuit against the U.S. USWNT makes final plea in equal pay lawsuit appeal, calls dismissal 'flatly wrong' You have reached a degraded version of because you're using an unsupported version of Internet Explorer.įor a complete experience, please upgrade or use a supported browser Sometimes it seems like, “Let’s play!” or, “I’m excited!” age 4 months.Īfter initially trying to scold her (verbally, NOT physically I know the latter is a primate behavior, not a canine behavior!), I slowly figured out she wasn’t being aggressive so much as just communicating…although we’re not always sure what she’s trying to say. old terrier mix (some have guessed Patterdale/Jack Russel), who’s done this ever since shortly after we adopted her, at approx. If you need help to create and implement a behavior modification protocol, contact a qualified behavior professional who is experienced and successful in modifying aggressive behavior with positive, dog-friendly techniques. (For much more detail about CAT programs, see “ Modifying Aggressive Behavior,” May 2008 WDJ.) One way to do this is to use counter-conditioning and desensitization to convince him the bad thing is a good thing (see “ Reducing Your Dog’s Anxieties,” April 2007 WDJ).Īnother way is through the careful use of negative reinforcement as in a Constructional Aggression Treatment (CAT) program to teach him a new behavioral strategy when presented with the discomfort-causing stimulus. Institute a behavior modification program for your dog to change his opinion about the thing that made him growl. The more stressors you can remove overall, the less likely he is to growl the next time you do whatever it was that elicited the growl this time. This explains why he may growl at you today when you do something, but he didn’t growl last week when you did the exact same thing. Keep in mind that stress causes aggression, and stressors are cumulative it’s not just the immediate stimulus that caused your dog to growl, but a combination of all the stressors he’s experienced in the past few days. Harsh verbal or physical punishment, an outburst of aroused barking at the mail carrier, fence fighting with another dog. A loud argument between you and your spouse could stress your dog as well as you, and your stress is stressful to your dog. The vacuum cleaner is a common stressor for dogs. Noise-phobic dogs might be under a strain if city crews have been digging up a nearby street with heavy equipment or there was a thunderstorm last night. Evaluate the stressors in your dog’s world and reduce or eliminate as many of them as possible.įor example, if your dog is unaccustomed to strangers, then having your sister and her husband and three kids as houseguests for a week would undoubtedly stress your dog. If you don’t have to do whatever it was that elicited the growl, don’t – until you can convince him that the activity in question is a good thing rather than a bad thing. Have someone else feed him treats or use a Licki Mat while you touch, groom, or restrain him. Lure him rather than physically pushing or pulling him. Try to get your dog to behave without eliciting a growl. Explore ways to get your dog to do something that does not elicit aggressive communication. Why is your dog growling? Does he growl when you touch or groom him? Growling when restrained? Does your dog growl when making direct eye contact? How about when you take something away from him? Or making him do something? If your dog is growling at you all of a sudden, try to determine what has changed in your shared environment. Wait until he relaxes, then move away, so you’re rewarding the relaxed behavior rather than the growl. If his growl doesn’t mean a bite is imminent, stop what you’re doing but stay where you are. If your dog’s growl threshold is near his bite threshold – that is, if there’s not much time between his growl and his bite, get safe. Don’t push your dog over his tolerance threshold. The Alpine region has a strong cultural identity. The 18th and 19th centuries saw an influx of naturalists, writers, and artists, in particular, the Romantics, followed by the golden age of alpinism as mountaineers began to ascend the peaks of the Alps. In 1800, Napoleon crossed one of the mountain passes with an army of 40,000. Hannibal notably crossed the Alps with a herd of elephants, and the Romans had settlements in the region. īy the 6th century BC, the Celtic La Tène culture was well established. The altitude and size of the range affect the climate in Europe in the mountains, precipitation levels vary greatly and climatic conditions consist of distinct zones. The Alpine region area contains 128 peaks higher than 4,000 m (13,000 ft). Mont Blanc spans the French–Italian border, and at 4,809 m (15,778 ft) is the highest mountain in the Alps. Extreme shortening caused by the event resulted in marine sedimentary rocks rising by thrusting and folding into high mountain peaks such as Mont Blanc and the Matterhorn. The mountains were formed over tens of millions of years as the African and Eurasian tectonic plates collided. The Alpine arch extends from Nice on the western Mediterranean to Trieste on the Adriatic and Vienna at the beginning of the Pannonian Basin. The Alps ( / æ l p s/) are the highest and most extensive mountain range that is entirely in Europe, stretching approximately 1,200 km (750 mi) across eight Alpine countries (from west to east): Monaco, France, Switzerland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Austria, Germany, and Slovenia.
